The Trustees of the University add 96 additional acres to Mason Farm, for what is now the Mason Farm Biological Reserve. The land is dedicated to biological research, teaching, and conservation. The NCBG begins to manage approximately 80 acres in the northern part of Mason Farm, primarily for botanical research. A pond (Botany Pond) is created.
