Mericarp

Definition: One of the segments of a schizocarp once it has split apart, often appearing to be a separate fruit; usually one-seeded and not splitting open at maturity (indehiscent); as the small, relatively hard-coated “nutlets” in the mint familiy (Lamiaceae) or the individual winged samaras of maples (Acer).
